About BAGFILES
Money has receipts.
People don’t.
BAGFILES publishes what actually happens to people around money — told by the people it happened to, with their names left out of it. This site is where those stories come in; X is where they go out.
What this is
Everybody has a money story. A trade that worked. A trade that didn’t. A business that nearly made it. A friend who took something. A number that changed a family. Most of those stories never get told, because telling them means attaching your name to the worst decision you ever made — or to a win you can’t explain to the people around you.
BAGFILES takes the name off. You write what happened. If the story is worth remembering, it becomes a numbered file in a public file, published on our X account, and it stays there.
Your story doesn't have to have your name on it.
What a file is
Every published story gets a sequential number — FILE #00001, FILE #00002, and on. The number is assigned by the system when a moderator publishes it. It is never chosen, never repeated, and never reassigned to a different story.
A file carries a title, a category, the month it was filed, and sometimes a rough amount range. It carries nothing else, because we hold nothing else.
What we want to read
Specific beats dramatic. “I lost £40,000” is a number. “I lost £40,000 and kept going to work for eleven months without telling my wife” is a file.
- Wins that were more complicated than they looked from outside.
- Losses you can describe precisely, including the parts that were your fault.
- The moment you decided something, and what you told yourself at the time.
- What it cost — not just the money.
- What you'd do differently, if anything.
How it works
- You write. No account, no email, no handle — the form doesn't ask.
- It lands in a queue as pending. Nothing publishes automatically.
- A moderator reads it. We may edit for clarity, length or safety.
- If it's selected, it gets the next file number and goes out on X.
- You can check on it any time with the submission ID you were given.
Submitting doesn’t guarantee publication. Most of what we’ll turn down will be turned down for one reason: it contains something that could identify the person who wrote it, or someone they wrote about.
What this isn't
- Not financial advice, and not a place to get any. No file is a recommendation.
- Not a place to name people, companies you're in a dispute with, or anyone who hasn't chosen to be here.
- Not a promotion channel. Files aren't sold, sponsored, or placed.
- Not a forum. There are no accounts, so there's nobody to argue with.
Who runs it
A small team reads every submission. We publish under the BAGFILES name rather than our own, for the same reason you’re publishing under a number rather than yours.
Some stories are worth filing.
